Congratulations to the overall winners of the 2009 RRCA Alabama State 1 Mile Championship, Josh Whitehead (4:34.66) and Kateira Allen (6:50.06). Masters Champions were Robert Whitaker (5:21.43) and Julie Braziel (7:11.12). The Burnout course continued to prove itself as the Fastest Mile in Alabama with two state age records set this year. 9 year old Daniel Hurren broke his own record set just two weeks ago by 12 seconds, turning in a time of 5:50.08. Overall winner Josh Whitehead also set a new 31 year old male record, eclipsing the old record by 13 seconds. Thanks to everyone who came out to run on a rainy morning and a special thanks to everyone who volunteered to help.

Shoals Christian School 5K and 1 Mile

Shoals Christian School hosted their 3rd Annual 5K race and 1 Mile fun run on September 26, 2009. This year, the school featured their Alumni. We only had 3 alumni this year with hopes of increasing the number of alumni runners for next year. The 3 alumni runners were Taylor Pickens, Andrew Almon, and Daniel Almon, all graduates from the year 2008. The winner of the Alumni was Taylor Pickens. Taylor also came in 1st in his age division with a time of 21:49. Congrats Taylor. Daniel Almon came in 2nd in his age division with a time of 22:55. Daniel is currently playing football for UNA. Andrew Almon came in 3rd in his age division with a time of 23:20. Andrew is currently playing baseball for UNA. Congratulations to all three.
There was a state age record for the 1 mile race set this year by 9 year old Daniel Hurren of Florence, finishing in 6:02.77. Daniel broke the existing 9 year old male record which had been previously set by his brother Byron.

Braselton Run for Reading 8K & 2K

A few TRAC members made the trip to Braselton, GA, to help Ryan and Sarah Kyranakis with the 2nd Annual Run For Reading 8K & 2K. The race, sponsored by Runners Fit, benefits the Braselton Public Library.

Dam-Bridge Run 10K
(11/22/08 - Florence, AL)
Today was a record setting day at the 4th Annual Dam-Bridge Run. Along with a record setting (for the race anyway) cold temperature at the start, both male and female course records were broken on the 10K course. 15 year old Lucas Sieb of Scottsboro, AL, shaved 27 seconds off of the male record which was set at the inagural running of the race in 2005. Sieb's time of 32:45 also shattered the 15 year old Alabama State record for the 10K. Nashville's Emily Ryan ran 40:45 which was over a minute faster than the previous female course record set in 2006.
Thanks to everyone who braved the cold to participate, and a special thanks to the 30 something volunteers who gave of their time and talent to be sure everything went smoothly for the event.
